Wherever ambient air is polluted by workstations or where compressed air is transformed into breathing air, special measures for the protection of health and living must be taken. An example is the extraction of breathing air in hospitals. A large amount of undesirable or life-threatening air ingredients must be eliminated from the breathing air. There are: particles, gas ingredients such as hydrocarbons, CO, CO2, SOx, NOx, odour substances, flavour substances or mineral oil and the abrasion of air compressors etc.
